The peak travel season runs from mid-March to mid-October each year, with the rest of the year considered the off-season. In recent years, winter tourism has been gradually gaining popularity.

Weekends are the busiest times for travel. Train and bus tickets are hard to come by. Accommodations are often fully booked on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, and tourist transportation is in shortest supply on Saturdays and Sundays. Hotel rates and transportation fares are higher during the weekend. If your schedule allows, try to avoid traveling on weekends.

Full-time students enrolled in the national education system (excluding adult education) nationwide are eligible for half-price discounts upon presentation of a student ID card. Full-time graduate students (excluding part-time graduate students) may also receive half-price student tickets upon presentation of a student ID card. According to relevant policies, Chinese students studying abroad who hold an International Student Identity Card are also eligible for half-price student tickets. A student ID card is a valid document proving student status; without one, ticket discounts cannot be processed.

Journalists holding the "Press Card" newly issued by the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television in 2009 are exempt from paying the entrance fee for themselves. The tour guide credentials issued nationwide serve as proof of a tour guide’s professional qualifications; tour guides accompanying groups into the mountain are exempt from paying the entrance fee for themselves when presenting these credentials.
