Yandangshan is located within Yueqing City, Wenzhou Municipality, Zhejiang Province. Renowned for its breathtaking landscapes that resemble a masterpiece of nature,it has long been celebrated as an "Extraordinary Marvel of the World" and a "Famed Mountain by the Sea." Historically known as the "Foremost Mountain of Southeast China," Yandangshan is counted among China's "Three Mountains and Five Sacred Peaks" and is one of China's top ten most famous mountains.Yandangshan is a UNESCO World Geopark, one of China's first National Scenic Areas, and one of the first National 5A Tourist Attractions.
Yandangshan rose to prominence in the Tang Dynasty (618–907) and flourished in the Song Dynasty (960–1279). Its geological formation dates back 120 million years, making it a representative example of a rhyolitic caldera from the Cretaceous Period of the Mesozoic Era. Renowned by geologists worldwide as a "Natural Museum of Rhyolite" and a "Museum of Landform Sculpture."
Covering a total area of 450 km², Yandangshan comprises eight major scenic areas: Lingfeng (Spiritual Peak), Lingyan (Spiritual Crag), Dalongqiu (Great Dragon Pond), Sanzhepu (Three-Tiered Waterfall), Yanhu (Goose Lake), Xianshengmen (Immortal's Gateway), Xianqiao (Immortal's Bridge), and Yangjiaodong (Ram's Horn Cave). The landscape encompasses peaks, sheer cliffs, caves, waterfalls, springs, and pools. The classic routes are the "Two Spirituals and One Dragon," while the "Nightscape of Lingfeng, the Rope Crossing at Lingyan, and the Cascading Waterfall of Dalongqiu" are known as the "Three Wonders of Yandangshan." As a coastal mountain scenic area where mountains meet the sea, the forest coverage rate reaches 97%, with negative oxygen ion concentrations of 33,000 per cubic centimeter. It is an ideal destination for nature sightseeing, leisure vacations, wellness retreats, and educational exploration.
