Xiangyu Fish,
one of Five Titbits of Mt. Yandang, is golden after cooked.
The taste is extremely nice and delicious with a special scent
and it is a very good food for wine. Lao Da'ao of Qing Dynasty
said that in his Yangjiang Anecdote, "The Five Titbits of
Mt. Yandang are Long Qiu Tea, Kwan-yin Bamboo, Jinxing Grass,
Shan Yueguan Bird, Xiangyu Fish." "The squama of Xiangyu Fish
is very small without fishy smell. It is born in early spring
and grows by one cun (a Chinese length unit) each month. When
in winter, it will be about one chi (a Chinese length unit)
and gives birth when there is tide then dies. It only lives
in the rivers of Mt. Yandang. It has another name as Counting
Month Fish." The rivers of Mt. Yandang referred here include
Shimen Pool, Puxi Wan Bay, Jinzhu Cave, Furong River. The
fish in Shimen Pool is the best of all.
